Growing a grape in a pot

A couple weeks ago I went to a small trip and I was very happy to see they had a couple grapes fruiting in small pots. It vas fun to see them in real life because so far I had only seen them like that in photos. It gives me even more hope for mine.

Hopefully next year mine will be big enough to fruit like this, I will keep posted on how it does.

  1. Fer, I am eager to see if you do get grapes. We planted a grape close to the house that I hope will vine eventually. We both will anxiously await to see who has fruit next spring. Good luck.

  2. I have one in a pot. I did have two but the ducks found one and ate all the leaves. I haven't made a support for it yet. How tall was the one in the picture?

  3. Fer, It is a quiet night with light rain falling a great time to check a few past postings from Blogs I follow. I didn't think you could even grow grapes in pots. I have a "wild" one on one of my arches in the garden, but never thought they would grow in posts. I think here it would be too cold for them to withstand the winter out of the ground. Jack

  5. I hope your grape vine in a pot would yield fruits. I had one years ago and it just grew and grew and then suddenly died :(

  6. I think I could get one to grow in the greenhouse, must give it a try now that we don't grow so many annuals.

  7. Thank you! now that I see it in real life, I know is possible, just have to be patient.

ann ~ I hope you get grapes soon, it will be a long wait.

becky ~ too bad the ducks got it, but if the root was strong it will come out again. That one was around a meter tall, a bit short but the fruit look good

Jack ~ I think growing them in a pot will work very well, you can take them inside when is to cold

Alistair ~ Try, its very fun, they are easy to take care of.

  13. This is such a great blog! I'm in Kagoshima and I just picked up a grape vine this morning and wondering how to get it going and now I know. Did you know that you can eat the grape leaves? When I was in Greece, they have a wonderful delicious dish of stuffed grape leaves with a citrus sauce so I'm looking forward to eating the leaves much more than the grapes.
